the history of berry farm
While the village of South Cerney was founded by Saxon settlers in 999 AD, parts of the stone farmhouse on the farm date back to 1580, and Berry Farm is known to have existed on the site since at least 1856. The Farm was purchased by Claire's great grandfather in 1932, for the princely sum of £4,300 - and has remained in the family ever since. Claire remembers harvest time when her grandfather Ray owned the farm - climbing up into the hay bales! Ray loved horses and was often seen round the village with his horse and trap, where Claire loved riding beside him. The farm was left to Claire's mother, and now Claire is the fourth generation of the family to live and work on the farm - and has uncovered some incredible photographs in the archives...
